Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
Hello, listeners! Welcome back to Movies for Life where today we are getting the band together! We're covering two amazing movies with tons of music to get stuck in your head so let's get right to it! First up for discussion this week is Michele's pick of 1996's THAT THING YOU DO! The directorial debut of Tom Hanks, this movie is an absolute joy with a stellar cast from top to bottom - not to mention that earworm titular song. Then we dive into Brian's pick, which is John Carney's 2016 smash SING STREET! It's all about family, brothers, bullies, love, and how sometimes you just have to make some art.

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE... we'll love you 'til the day we die!
Welcome back for Part 2 of our favorite Christmas movies where we talk about the holiday staple and bona fide classic that is Frank Capra's IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946). This movie brings out all the feels in just about every scene, and we talk about just about every scene in this discussion! Hear us gush more about one of our favorite actors, Jimmy Stewart; the wonderful characters that populate this film; the moments and scenes that melt our hearts; and why it's okay to feel a little corny sometimes. Happy Holidays to all our friends, families, and listeners, and we seriously cannot thank you enough for listening to our little show! Thank you for a wonderful first year of Movies for Life and we hope you stick with us through 2022 as we have lots more great movies to talk about!

Happy Holidays, listeners! We're celebrating the season here at Movies for Life with a look at both of the hosts favorite Christmas movies! This discussion went on for quite a long time (like pretty much all of our discussions do) so we're going to break this episode up - look for Part 2 coming soon! But first, we're talking about Michele's favorite Christmas movie - the Bill Murray-starring comedy SCROOGED from 1988! H We gush about the cast (especially Karen Allen!), the laughs, and the heart of this unique take on the Dickens' story "A Christmas Carol." Yule love it!

Remakes #1: THE INVISIBLE MAN
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Now you see us, now you don't...
This episode marks the first in a new series on Movies for Life all about movies and their remakes! The more different the movies are, the better - and this first pairing of movies couldn't be more different! Almost 90 years apart, we're taking a look at the two iterations of THE INVISIBLE MAN from 1933 and 2020. The original James Whale film is of course a classic, with an interesting and often dark, humorous look at the human condition and the corruption of power, and also with special effects that still hold up to this day. Then we go even deeper into Leigh Whannell's modern update of the story, which features a tour de force performance from Elisabeth Moss. The terrifyingly real situation explored in the movie is sadly very relevant, and even more effective to the hosts because of personal connections. We hope you all enjoy this discussion, and look for more Remakes episodes coming in the future!

Forever Favorites #5 Part 2: DIRTY DANCING
Tuesday Nov 09, 2021
Tuesday Nov 09, 2021
We have arrived at our final movie in our coverage of Brian and Michele's Forever Favorites, and it's a bona fide classic. Michele's #1 forever favorite movie is 1987's DIRTY DANCING. Listen as the two hosts get Swayze Crazy talking about all the things that make this pop culture phenomenon so much more meaningful and personal than what's on the surface. We love the characters and the music, but we also love the way we connect with the movie in terms of the evolution of the father-daughter relationship, as well as the true love and appreciation between the two main characters that we all know - Baby and Johnny. We hope you've enjoyed this journey through all of our Forever Favorites and that you have the time of your life with this final discussion (of course I had to say it).

Forever Favorites #5 Part 1: ALMOST FAMOUS
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
All aboard Doris the tour bus as we hit the road with Stillwater and Cameron Crowe's shamelessly personal epic Almost Famous. We look at the film through the eyes of its major characters, especially William Miller, Russell Hammond, William's mother Elaine, and of course, the enigmatic and intriguing Penny Lane. We discuss the moments that move us, the lines that make us laugh, and the music that gets into our heads. All things that gets this movie under our skin and into our souls.

Tuesday Oct 05, 2021
Happy Halloween season, Movies for Life listeners! This bonus episode of the show is both a celebration of the greatest holiday of the year with some spooky movie talk, and also a sort of bonus Forever Favorite discussion as well. CHILD'S PLAY is Michele's favorite horror movie of all time and really SHOULD have been on her FF list, but wasn't so we're talking about it here! And since CHILD'S PLAY 2 is Brian's favorite of the franchise, we're talking about that one too! Hear how Chucky is Michele's horror boy, how scary the original film actually is, how Kyle is an amazing final girl, and just how much we love both of these movies in general! Enjoy!
